Obituary of Jacqueline Martin McCarthy

Jacqueline “Jackie” (Martin) McCarthy, 78, formerly of Cornelia Avenue in Charlton, died Saturday February 11, 2017 at Capital Living Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Schenectady. Mrs. McCarthy was born April 16, 1938 in Gloversville, NY. In her youth, Mrs. McCarthy was a member of the “Harmonettes”, a teenage quartet that made periodic appearances on the television show, “Teenage Barn” during the early days of TV. Jackie attended Fisher Junior College in Boston, and later worked from 1957-1961 as a Secretary in the Psychology Department of St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Subsequently, she held the position of Executive Secretary for Public Service of Colorado in Boulder. After returning to the area, Jackie taught piano for twenty years, and performed for several years as the accompanist for the Schenectady Choral Society. She was also affiliated with Literacy Volunteers of America and worked for several years for the Fashoda fashion store in Clifton Country Mall. Jackie was predeceased by her husband John “Jack” McCarthy, whom she married on August 24, 1957, and by her son Timothy McCarthy. She is survived by her sons Terry (Paula) McCarthy of Burnt Hills, and Stephen (Erin) McCarthy of Niskayuna. Jackie is also survived by her grandchildren, Jacqueline (Robert) Schacht of Glenville and Derek McCarthy of Burlington, VT and by her sister Maureen “Corky” (David) Heacock of Gloversville, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks for the years of attentive care provided by Dr. Robert Halbig, as well as the wonderful nurses and aides of Visiting Nurses Services of Schenectady, in particular Carol Zier, all of whom made life for Jackie as comfortable as possible during her struggles with Multiple Sclerosis. The family would also like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Capital Living Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, as well as the support of the dedicated staff of Hospice for their care for Jackie the past 14 months. Contributions may be made in Jackie’s name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society Upstate NY Chapter—Donors Relation Center, 1650 South Avenue, Suite 100 Rochester, NY 14620 and Community Hospice, 320 S. Manning Blvd Albany, NY 12208. Services will be private for the family and will be provided by the Glenville Funeral Home.
