Obituary of Helene Y. Girard

Helene Y. Girard, 94, passed away March 11th at Joan Nicole Prince Home with her loving family at her side. Helene was born on July 17, 1922 in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Andrew and Helene (Nolan) Yates. In 1924 the family moved to Burnt Hills. Following graduation in 1939 from BH-BL High School, Helene went to work for G.E. She was married to John Girard on June 18, 1941 at O.L. of Grace Church in Ballston Lake. John died at the young age of 46 in 1967. Helene worked at G.E.'s Credit Union (James St./Route 50), retiring in 1979. She raised a family and took pride in her community. Helene was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar Society and the Women's Auxiliary at E.G.V.F.D. since 1951. She enjoyed many years as a snowbird in Florida, listening and rooting for the Yankees and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish! She also enjoyed reading, going to concerts and family gatherings. The family would like to thank all of the nurse and volunteers and the Joan Nicole Prince Home for the loving care they shown Helene. Survivors include her children (sons), John Girard of Catskill, Paul (Ara) Girard of Pembroke Pines, FL and Joseph (MaryLou) Girard of Glenville; (daughters), Mary Girard of Schenectady and Ann (Joseph) Bellicose of Rotterdam. Grandchildren, Hannah and Joseph Girard Jr., Keli (Matthew) Oberting and Erwin (Melissa) Lopez; great-grandchildren, Mia, Brock and Tyson Lopez, Ayonna Oberting and Audrey Girard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday (March 14) at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Saratoga Rd., Glenville. A calling period will take place at GLENVILLE FUNERAL HOME, 9 Glenridge Rd., from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow the Mass at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Brandywine Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to Joan Nicole Prince Home, 22 Glenview Dr., Scotia, NY 12302, Community Hospice of Schenectady County or to Schenectady ARC, in Helene Yates Girard's name
