Obituary of Jack Purdy

It is with a saddened heart that we announce the passing of Jack G Purdy on March 21, 2017. Jack was a life long resident of the Capital District having graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. He served honorably in the US Army from 1965 to 1968. He was a Viet Nam combat veteran, serving with the 82nd and 101st Airborne. He was appointed to the Glenville Police Department in 1971 and rose through the ranks ultimately retiring as Chief of Police. Jack is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 47 years Lena Purdy, his sons Jack (Erin) and Michael Purdy and five grandchildren Alaina, Matthew, Sara, Francesca and Alexandra. His mother Mary Purdy Heise and brothers Floyd (Tina), Robert, William (Sheila), David (Laurel) and sister Darlene (Dennis) Smith. Brother and sister in laws Tom and Sylvia Nozny, Amelia Nardone, Tony Nardone, and Ann Marie Goss, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jack was very community and civic orientated as evident by his involvement with many service organizations. He was a former member of the East Glenville Fire Department, charter member of the Scotia-Glenville Elks Club, member of VFW Post, International Association of Chiefs of Police, and Kiwanis serving in many capacities within the organization, most recently as the Lieutenant Governor for Mohawk Division of New York. Jack was an avid golfer, poker player and master of games of chance. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service at 4 PM on Sunday, March 26, 2017 with Reverend Richard H. Moran Jr. officiating, at the Glenville Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held prior from 2 to 4 PM .A private burial at a later date will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors. The family suggest in lieu of flowers, contributions in memorial be sent to Kamp Kiwanis payable to NY District Kiwanis Foundation re: Kamp Kiwanis Memorial Fund 126 Lefferts Road Woodmere New York 11598. The family would like to extend its appreciation to the staff of Union College Campus Safety, Schenectady Fire Department and Ellis Hospital ICU E-Wing for their courtesy, professionalism and caring
