Obituary of LeRoy H. Cook

LeRoy H. Cook transitioned into his new life in the early morning of April 1st, 2017, at St. Peter's Hospice Inn. He was the son of Claude F. and Mildred T. Cook, born in Greene, N.Y. on January 31, 1937. He graduated from Greene Central School in 1955, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He worked from the time he was fourteen. His last job in high school was at the local Mobil gas station. He went on to join the U.S, Army and was a Medic in Germany Upon Army discharge he began a career with Mobil Oil Corporation, driving a gasoline delivery truck in Ithaca, NY. He and his family moved throughout NYS, his last position being Terminal Superintendent in Albany. In 1990 Lee accepted a position with Mobil Saudi Arabia as Manager, Operations & Supply, Arabian Petroleum Supply Co., Jeddah. He retired in 1994, and being an avid outdoorsman he resumed hunting with his brothers and nephews, fishing, and playing golf. He worked diligently trying to discourage the squirrels at his bird feeders. He was a member of the Hudson Mohawk Antique Truck Club of America, driving his 1946 Mack LJ to various shows and working at their local show in Ballston Spa. He played golf with the Dick Lee Memorial Golf League and was President of the ExxonMobil Retirement Club in Albany. He will always be remembered as a very positive, extremely hard working man, and a loyal friend. Lee is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice, as well as his four children, Melanie Lee Thyrring, Pamela J. (Mark Ladd) Cook, S. Christopher Cook and Gregory Edward Cook and Greg's wife, Wendy, whom he loved as his own daughter. He enjoyed being a part of his eight grandchildren's lives, Kaylee P. Thyrring, Johnna A.Thyrring, and Erik P. Thyrring, Hailey E. Cook-Ladd, Ryan T. Cook and Katelyn E. Cook, and Kayla E. Hofheinz and Erich F. Hofheinz . He also leaves behind his brother and family Jack (Judy) Cook, sisters-in-law, Nanda Cook (Leo) and his Godson, Scott A. Cook, and Esther Cook (Edward.) Many nieces and nephews survive him. He was predeceased by his brothers, Leo and Edward. He lost two brothers at very young ages, Claude and Gerald. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 6th from 4-7:00 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville, NY. Committal services with Military Honors will be held on Friday, April 7 at 10:30 AM, Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend, please meet at the cemetery gate by 10:15 AM. In place of flowers, memorial gifts in Lee's name may be made to St. Peter's Hospice Inn, 315 South Manning, Albany, NY 12208. Their wonderful expert care and sympathetic attention was amazing.
