Obituary of Robert W. Onderchain,Sr.

Robert W. Onderchain Sr., 79, passed away at Ellis Hospital May 12, 2017. Born in Dearborn, MI, his family moved to Scotia when he was in tenth grade. A graduate of Scotia High School's Class of '55, Bob attended Albany Business College. His first job during high school was working at Montana's Service Station. It was there he learned auto mechanics through hands on experience. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from '58-'60. Marrying the former Linda Tyler on June 23, 1962 was a highlight of his life. They took their sacred vows at the Scotia Baptist Church. The family moved to Vermont where Bob worked for G.E. in Rutland and later Burlington. Mr. Onderchain became supervisor for G.E. in the Large Steam Turbine Department after moving back to Scotia. He was employed by G.E. for over 30 years. His skill as a self taught auto mechanic was amazing. He was a jack of all trades. Years ago his family were members of the Scotia First (Dutch) Reformed Church. He was also a member of the ELFUN Society and the Quarter Century Club at G.E. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Elsie Onderchain and his brothers, Peter and Richard; and his beloved son, Robert Jr. (1987). Survivors include his wife, Linda Onderchain; daughter, Bonnie (husband William) Huff of York, PA and granddaughter, Meaghan Huff Gilgore (husband Shawn); brothers, Alan, Thomas and William Onderchain and several nieces and nephews.
