Obituary of Harvey L. Alois
Harvey L. Alois of Niskayuna unexpectedly passed away on May 18, 2017 at his home where he maintained his beautiful property until his last day at the age of 92.
Born and raised in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Joseph Alois and Genevieve (Santore) Alois. After high school, he entered the United States Army where he served from 1943 to 1946; he was a patriotic American. He married the late Marie Broderick who passed away in 2006. Harvey was first employed at ALCO where he worked on tank turrets, he then went on to work at both the Army Depot and General Service Administration, working for the Federal Government for over 36 years.
Throughout his career, Harvey was a talented mechanical man also owning his own lawn mower business. Harvey Alois Lawn Mower Sales and Service, opened in 1955 and was operated and serviced by Harvey until his last day, he was a proud owner and dedicated to his customers.
As an avid NASCAR fan and classic car enthusiast, he also enjoyed watching local stock car racing. For many years, Harvey was a member of his church and participated as an usher. Harvey’s passion in life was working outdoors, he took pride in his yard and home, which was evident.
Harvey was predeceased by his wife, Marie Alois; loving sisters Lucille Kennedy and Helen Enos; brothers, Joseph Alois, Ralph Alois, William Alois, James Alois.
He is survived by his sons, Gary (Susan) Alois, Glenn (Cindy) Alois; daughters Donna Alois and Debra Alois; grandchildren, Kelly Krause, Laura Alois and Kurt Alois; and several nieces and nephews.
At the family’s request, funeral services will be private. Final interment will be at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
