Obituary of Henry DaMassa Jr.
Henry DaMassa Jr., 86, entered eternal rest on June 26, 2017. Henry was born
in Schenectady on April 1, 1931 and grew up on Foster Avenue. He was one of
seven children to Enrico (Henry) DaMassa Sr. and Philomena Facchini DaMassa.
A graduate of Nott Terrace High School in 1949, Henry enlisted with the Army during
the Korean War. He attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant after completing
Officer Candidate Training School. He received an honorable discharge
in '53 and took advantage of the G.I. Bill and attended the Colorado School of
Mining and Engineering. Henry worked for the Chance Vought Aircraft Corporation
in Texas for several years before returning to Schenectady.
Henry was an avid collector of Antiques and over a fifty-year span dealt in
the business of buying & selling. He enjoyed cooking, and as a single man this was
a good thing. Henry's family fondly remember him playing the accordion as a young boy
and entertaining others with his music.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Dominick DaMassa.
He leaves behind five sisters, Rosa Mercurio (Angelo) of Burnt Hills, Louise
Sessa (late Michael), of Jamesville, NY, Marie Joseph ((Edward) of Fallbrook, CA,
Josephine Wheaton (late Bob) of Seneca Falls, NY and Carol Hammond (Leon)
of Tampa, FL. There are numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday (July 17) at 11 AM at St.
Anthony's Church, Nott St.@ Seward Place in Schenectady. Following, there
will be a procession to Gerald B.H. Solomon National Veteran's Cemetery in
Schuylerville, NY where military honors will be bestowed.
Henry will be laid to rest on these hallowed grounds.
