Obituary of Louis T. Marshall

Louis T. Marshall, 97, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2017 at the Glendale Nursing Facility with his dear friends at his side. Born and raised in Altoona, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Christine Marshall. Louis was a graduate of Altoona High School. Following graduation, he proudly defended his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II serving from 1941 to 1945 and earned the respected title of Technical Sergeant. During his time in the service, Louis traveled all over the world to places such as Italy, France and helped defend his country in the Invasion of Africa in 1942. He earned many medals such as the Good Conduct Medal as well as 6 Bronze Stars. Louis moved to the Schenectady area in 1948 and was employed by General Electric. He was a designer of large steam turbines and retired after many faithful years in 1984.  Louis married his beloved late wife Lavita Droms Marshall on July 10, 1954, at St. Luke’s Church in Schenectady.   He was an avid reader, especially of books on history and World War II.  Both Louis and his wife Lavita were faithful members of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville.  Louis was an extremely devoted husband and helped take care of his wife for many years until her passing on August 2, 2013.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brothers and sisters. Louis is survived by several nephews, nieces and caring friends.

A calling hour will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 8:30am to 9:30am at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville. Interment with military honors will take place at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions in Louis’s name may be made to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road Glenville, New York 12302.
