Obituary of Elbert Jacob Weller

Elbert (Eb) Jacob Weller, 99, born in Schenectady, NY, on March 28, 1918 died peacefully at home on September 7, 2017 in Toledo, Ohio.

He leaves his daughter, Ellen Nash and husband, Phil, daughter-in-law, Adele Weller, dear special friend, Colis Hudgins, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Theresa Richter and husband Mark and their children Sondra and Mathew;  Gretchen Perry and husband Chris and their children, Lauren and Rachel;  Jessica Leja and husband Dana and their children, Dylan and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor and son Elbert Jr. and brothers Leland and Schuyler Weller.

Eb was the son of Leland and Gertrude (Jacques) Weller and was born and raised in the Schenectady/Scotia, NY area.  After graduating from Scotia High School he proudly became part of the third generation of General Electric employees, the “GE Boys”, following his grandfather and father.  Eb graduated from the GE Apprentice Program.  Soon after he met and married Eleanor Barnett.  In the early 50’s the family moved to Detroit where Eb worked for Carboloy, a division of GE, as a metallurgical engineer until his retirement.  After his retirement from GE he became the CEO for ISCAR Corporation in New Jersey and eventually for the Master Chemical in Perrysburg, Ohio.  Eb also served as a manufacturing consultant to the United Nations in Israel just after the 7 Day War for which he received the Israeli Freedom Medal.  He was a lifelong Mason and a life member of the Beukendaal Lodge # 915 of the Free and Accepted Masons (72 years).  He was also a member of the Jefferson Lodge # 553 in Detroit, Michigan and a Shriner.  He was a long time member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers, held various leadership roles and was the recipient of several awards and holder of several patents.

Eb worked and traveled the world.  He was an avid reader and loved traveling, hunting, camping, photography, bowling, and most of all being at his cottage in Galway Lake, NY.  He was a man of strong and deep faith, active throughout his life in scouting and church activities as a Sunday school teacher and scout leader. He was a member of the Church of the Cross, a United Methodist Church in Toledo, Ohio.

A Masonic service will be held Wednesday, September 20 at 11 a.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:15 a.m. with the Rev. Eric Kerwath, officiating. Relatives and friends may call prior from 10:30 to 11am.  Interment will follow at Park Cemetery in Scotia.
