Obituary of Joseph A. Grasso

Joseph “Joe” Anthony Grasso , 91 passed away at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home on September 15, 2017 after a long illness. Joseph was born in Schenectady and was a graduate of Vocational Tech High School with a diploma in Automotive and Aeronautic studies. Joseph served his Country during WWII in the Army Transportation Corp with an honorable discharge in 1946. He was employed by the City of Schenectady in the Mechanical Division, Dept. of Engineering and Public Works. He retired in 1984 after 41 years with 20 years in the supervisory capacity. Joe served on the Schenectady County Republican Committee. He was a very active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church (St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church) Rosa Rd., Schenectady. Joe loved playing and watching golf and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Joseph’s greatest joy in life was his family. Through his kind and gentle manner he touched the hearts and lives of all he encountered.

Joseph is predeceased by his parents Angelo and Anna Bell Grasso and stepmother Elizabeth Grasso; sisters Mary Samek and Connie Grasso. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Emily “Millie” Grasso; son Michael (Leslie) Grasso of Lake George and daughter Linda (Kent) Gray of Rotterdam; grandchildren Dena (John) Rich of Clifton Park, Kristie (Michael) Hennessey of Charlotte, NC, and Michael Grasso Jr. of Lake George; great-grandchildren Ella, Camryn, Emilia, and Natalie. Also survived by his brother Angelo (Marcia) Grasso and sister Anna (Don) Burn, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Kingsway Village/Nursing Home and Community Hospice of Schenectady.

Calling hours for Joseph will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville, Tuesday, September 19th from 5 to 8 PM. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, September 20th at 11 AM at the Christ the Redeemer Corridor Mausoleum in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy-Schenectady Rd., Niskayuna.
