Obituary of James E. Persons
James E. Persons, 94, of Glenville, died peacefully on September 15, 2017 at Ellis Hospital. Born on May 23, 1923, James was raised in Brant Lake on a small farm; he was the son of the late Seymour and Charlotte (Parker) Persons. He was a 1942 graduate of Horicon High School. Following, high school Jim proudly defended his country in the United States Navy during WWII, from 1943 to 1946.
James married his beloved wife, Elvira, on June 22, 1952 in Glasco, NY. They shared 59 years together. The couple began their family in the Schenectady area, where Jim started his career with ALCO. He retired from General Electric as a steamfitter in 1988 after many faithful years. He was a hard worker and selfless man, and his family always came first. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim was a communicant of Burnt Hills Baptist Church.
Throughout his life he enjoyed watching the NY Yankees, gardening and socializing with friends. He attended many Navy Ship Reunions with his wife and their annual family vacation to Ocean City, MD.
Predeceased by his wife Elvira, who passed in 2011. James is survived by his loving daughter, Linda Marra and her husband, Joseph and their children, James and Elizabeth; as well as several sister-in-law’s, cousins and nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours for James will be held on Wednesday September 20th from 6 to 8pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 21st at 10AM at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow the service on Thursday at Brant Lake Cemetery, Horicon, NY 12815.
