Michael Quinn

Obituary of Michael F. Quinn

Michael F. "Coach" Quinn, 64, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017 in the loving arms of his family.

Mike was born in South Troy, NY to Edna and John P. Quinn on November 5, 1953.  Following his graduation in 1971 from Catholic Central High School, he went onto Hudson Valley Community College and The College of St. Rose to earn degrees in Human Services.  Mike spent his 35 year career working in the field of Child Protective Services. He began as a caseworker for Rensselaer County and then moved onto the NYS Child Abuse Hotline, where he served many roles.  Eventually upon retirement from the State, Mike was able to have his "dream job" of coaching both softball and basketball at Southern Vermont College in Bennington, Vermont, eventually becoming the Head Women's Basketball Coach for the next nine years.  Due to ill health he retired in December 2016 but not before becoming the winningest coach in Women's Basketball history at SVC.  His accomplishments became many, but his proudest were definitely the relationships he built with "his girls". The stories of his impact on his players' lives have been heartwarming.

Coaching his children, grandchildren and other children in the community was where his love of coaching began.  Mike coached a wide variety of youth sports including bowling, baseball, basketball, and softball.  He was one of the co-founders of the Latham Lassies Softball League and went onto serve as one of its first presidents. He loved watching his grandchildren play a variety of sports and never stopped "coaching" them and their friends from the sidelines.

Mike was pre-deceased by his parents, Edna and John P. Quinn, and his beloved grandson, Cameron Scott Carlin, who will be waiting to welcome him in Heaven.  He is survived by his best friend, Londa Quisick Quinn, and his adored children, Jon P. Quinn, Megan M. (Scott) Carlin, and Micaela C. (Emerson) Morse, also his cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle, Colin, Elizabeth, Liam, Addison, Mack, Jack, Nicholas, and Emerson.
