Marie Barr

Obituary of Marie Murphy Barr

Marie (Murphy) Barr, 42, of Los Angeles passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2017.

Marie, a loving wife for 18 years to Roger Barr, a daughter, sister and aunt to many nieces and nephews, was born in Glenville, NY. She was the youngest of nine children, daughter of Helen (Lytwynec) Murphy and the late Bernard Murphy, and graduated from Trumbull High School in Connecticut and cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Communication Arts & Design.

Marie was a creative and highly talented artist.  Her art was featured in numerous galleries including a sold-out solo exhibition at Hyaena Gallery, Burbank, CA and group exhibitions in cities all across the U.S., such as Washington, DC; Portland, OR; Miami, FL; and San Diego, CA.  Her web designs earned many awards including U.S. News & World Report’s “Best of the Web.”

Her creativity, deep understanding of human nature, wit, adventurous spirit, kindness, and compassion endeared Marie to all who knew her.  Marie always took the time to lend an ear to anybody who needed help, sharing all her loving advice and knowledge so they could better themselves.

Completely selfless her entire life, Marie was an organ donor, and it would make her smile knowing that her life did indeed have another purpose in the end: Giving life to others.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband and her mother, and by her eight siblings and their spouses, Ellen Murphy, Donna (Murphy) and Rick Tessitore, Gary and Gail Murphy, Alia (Murphy) and Fuad Shah, Carol (Murphy) and Tom Meyers, Seanan Murphy and Sarah Leinicke, Patrick and Rene Murphy, and Peter Murphy; her parents-in-law, Janet and George Barr, and sister and brother-in-law and their spouses, Noelle and Jarrod Edwards, and Christopher and Erin Barr; as well as more than two dozen nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A private family service will be held at Glenville Funeral Home in Glenville, NY and a memorial will be held in Los Angeles, CA.

Donations in Marie’s honor can be made to her favorite organizations:
