Obituary of Richard J. Hermida

Richard J. Hermida, 87, died peacefully December 2, 2017 at the Glendale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with his loving family at his side. Richard was born in Schenectady on December 21, 1929, the son of Higinio and Ida (Zimick) Hermida. In 1949 he graduated Mont Pleasant High School, then the G.E. Apprentice Program. He worked at the MICA Insulating Plant during and after high School. He was united in marriage to Margaret (Morrett) Hermida on May 21, 1950. Richard later worked for G.E. at multiple locations, retiring after 38 years as supervisor in the drafting department. Mr. Hermida was a scoutmaster at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church for several years. He was an avid fisherman of trout species, expert fly tier and taught others the intricacies of the sport. He cherished time spent with his family and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters, Beatrice Carpineto and Marion Sindoni. The Hermida Family wishes to thank the staff of Union Station at the Glendale Home for the care given to Richard. God bless you. Survivors include his wife, Peg Hermida; son, Richard J. Hermida; and daughters, Lynn Davis (Brian) and Julie Johnson (Walter); grandchildren, Christina Davis, Jesse Hermida, Richard Hermida, Jenna Knapp, Joshua and Zachary Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Miles J. Barley and Lucy Knapp. Richard is survived also by several nieces and nephews. Funeral will leave from the Glenville Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. A calling hour will precede the beginning of the funeral service on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to Clearwater Chapter of Trout Unlimited, PO Box 9686, Schenectady, NY 12309 or to APF, 52 Maple Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302 or to the church building fund.
