Obituary of Gloria Ericson

Gloria Ericson, 92, of Rexford, N.Y passed away December 22, 2017 at her home with her husband by her side.
Gloria was born in Troy, NY to Elizabeth and Henry Brown on May 11, 1925. Gloria graduated from Troy High School, and continued on to work as a lab technician for the former Cluett Peabody Co. in Troy. She met the love of her life, John Ericson, on a blind date set up by mutual friends from R.P.I. in 1947.  The couple was married on June 19, 1948. The Ericson's lived 13 years in Alplaus and 54 years in their home in Rexford. Gloria worked for the Daily Gazette in the advertizing departments for several years. She was also involved as a brownie leader when living in Alplaus. Gloria loved her Rexford home and all who drove by admired her perennial gardens. She was a member of the Greenhouse and Indoor Plant Association and loved to grow exotic plants and orchids. Her indoor plants have been written up in a national plant magazine. She was an Emeritus Member of the Schenectady Junior League and Associate Member of the Garden Club of Schenectady. Gloria was presented with the “Volunteer of the Year Award” in 1957. She worked at the Children's Theatre, the Next to New Shop and the Family and Child Service of Schenectady, where she became president of both these organizations. She sang with the Schenectady Light Opera and made costumes for the opera shows. Gloria was a fabulous seamstress and had a knack for creating her gowns and other clothing. Gloria was a charter member of a book club that has met for over 50 years.

As a result of several strokes, the last two and a half years Gloria has been under homecare with a great group of caregivers. Gloria was a very loving, caring person and had a smile that lit up the room and those around her.
