Obituary of Edward V. Uttberg

Edward V. Uttberg, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 27, 2017. Born on April 2, 1926 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Adolph and Josephine Uttberg.

Ed attended Scotia Glenville schools before joining the Army. He proudly defended his country from 1944-1946. While in the Army he was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. Edward married his beloved wife Ellen “Jane” on November 3, 1946 at the Alplaus United Methodist Church where they were long time members. Ed was a lifelong carpenter and builder, owning and operating Uttberg Builders. Edward enjoyed nature, especially feeding the animals at his home and visiting the family camp in Woodland Lake in Corinth. He also enjoyed bowling, doing puzzles and circle books, and watching sports especially football, baseball, and basketball. Above all Edward will be remembered for his devotion to his family.

Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years Jane, his children Cindy (Mark) Franze, Melinda (James) Smith and Edward (Karen) Uttberg Jr.. His grandchildren Kathleen (Dan) Barker, Daniel (Angela) Uttberg, Alexander (Jennifer) Smith, Bree (Ryan) Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Jeannine Bechand, Jennifer (Barry) Suydam and Jaclyn (William) Lauer. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, his sisters Alma Polsinelle and Lena Shaver as well as many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Lester Uttberg, Clarence Uttberg, Paul Lange, Richard Lange and Olly Clute.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday December 30, 2017 from 11am to 1 pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A funeral service will follow at 1pm at the funeral home with Pastor Kristi Van Patten officiating. Burial with military honors will take place in the spring at Park Cemetery in Scotia.
