Obituary of Joyce E. Davis

Joyce E. Davis, 85, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2018 at the Glendale Home. Born on March 16, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mildred White. Joyce was a graduate of Draper High School and went on to continue her education at Mildred Elly.

She was a secretary for General Electric for several years prior to having her children. Once her children were grown she went back to work for Schenectady County Department of Social Services as a Receptionist retiring after many years.

Joyce was a long time member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Rotterdam and was very active in the church youth group. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her brother Bill, as well as travel excursions and attending craft fairs with her sister, Millie. She also lived in Spain and England and enjoyed traveling extensively throughout Europe.  In her later years she enjoyed quiet time at her home. She was very proud of all her grandchildren and their accomplishments. No one will ever forget Joyce's famous four words “I’m not a techie…”


Joyce is survived by her son Scott (Linda) Davis and her daughter Cynthia (Stephen) Russell. Also surviving are her grandchildren Dana Russell, Torie Russell, Evan Russell, Ian Davis, Alisha Davis and Garrett Davis, as well as several nieces and nephews.


She was predeceased by her brother William White and her sister Mildred “Millie” Mains.


Calling hours for Joyce will be held on Wednesday January 17, 2018 from 5pm to 7pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. Funeral services will follow at 7pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring at Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam.


The family would like to thank her in home caregivers Kim, Lisa, Charlene, and “Other” Joyce and the entire staff of the Glendale Home for their wonderful care given to Joyce over the years.


Memorial contributions in Joyce’s name may be made to the Schenectady City Mission or charity of choice.
