Obituary of James R. Pelicone

James R. Pelicone, 84, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 11, 2018. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late James and Margaret Visco Pelicone and was educated at Nott Terrace High School. James proudly defended his country by serving in the Army during the Korean War. On August 31, 1952, he married the love of his life Shirley E. Altieri Pelicone at St. Anthony’s Church in Schenectady. Jim worked for the City of Schenectady as a mechanic retiring in 1995 after many faithful years. He enjoyed camping, boating and especially fishing. He loved to visit Sacandaga Lake as well as several vacations in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Jim also enjoyed visiting his brother and sister in Florida and Georgia. When he wasn't traveling or enjoying the outdoors, he could be found cheering on the Yankees, watching boxing or enjoying taking care of his home. Above all his greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Shirley Pelicone, his children Denise (John) Carpenter, Mark (Heather) Pelicone and Jamie (Richard) DeMassio. He was the cherished Poppy to Crystal Mason, Diana DeMassio, Sarah DeMassio, Nicholas Pelicone and Anthony DeMassio. Additionally, Jim was a beloved Great Poppy to Leland Taylor. He is also survived by loving brother John (Gloria) Pelicone, sisters Mary Pisano, Jean (Tom) Rahner and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother Anthony Pelicone.

Relatives and friends may call at the Glenville Funeral Home on Tuesday January 16, 2018 from 10am to 12pm. Funeral services will follow at 12pm at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville.
