I just learned of Jack's passing in a FB post someone wrote. My sincere condolences to his family. Jack was a superhuman being loved by so many people and I'm sure is missed by all. I have many fond memories of Jack from highschool and Rubacks Grove, Galway. Truly one of the most understanding and considerate people I've ever met with a passion for music and people. RIP Jack, you left wonderful memories for everyone you touched.

I was very sad to learn of the passing of Mr. Harrison - a beloved Music Teacher, Band Leader and Guidance Counselor at S.G.H.S. He truly was a favorite of mine and so many other students that he guided and taught with such compassion and patience. He will be truly missed.
My deepest sympathy to his dear family.

It was truly sad news to learn of Mr. Harrison's passing. Our high school band director meant a great deal to me back then and has continued decades since. Several years ago my mother asked me who was my most influential high school teacher, fully expecting me to say a math teacher as I was a math major at SUNY Albany. My answer was Mr. Harrison. He was the first to help me ease out of my natural shyness and quiet nature. I played clarinet in the band before Mr. Harrison somehow got me to switch to tenor saxophone. That led to a spot in the dance band. One clarinet in the band of maybe 40 or 50 students doesn't stand out, but the tenor saxophone in a group of 12 or 15 can be individually heard. Through his influence I also became a member of a woodwind quintet where the clarinet most definitely can be heard. As I remember the quintet rehearsed on our own, without a conductor. Diane Hamilton was the group's flute player.
Band practice was always held during first period. So many chilly fall mornings Mr. Harrison led us on the football field to practice our marching band maneuvers. I remember trying to read the music and play while making a turn, sizing my steps to keep my row in a straight line. We had beautiful red and white uniforms with hats and were warmly received during half-time of home football games.
Mr. Harrison will be missed.

Jack and I were graduate students at Siena in the early 1960s and became good friends. We continued to meet at Capital District Guidance Association events and meetings over all the years of our professional lives. A dedicated friend and professional Jack could always provide a laugh with his fantastic humor. My sympathy to you, his family and may he rest in peace.
