Jean Smith

Obituary of Jean A. Smith

Jean A. Smith, 83, at rest, February 10, 2018. Born in Bennington, Vermont on April 2, 1934, the daughter of Ernest and Marion Taylor Downing, and the loving wife of Charles "Bruce" Smith, who predeceased her in 2004. She was a graduate of Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing and had a varied nursing career finally retiring while in her seventies from New Choices Recovery Center.  She was a volunteer in many community agencies throughout her lifetime.

From an early age she developed a firm foundation in her Christian faith and was an active member of Burnt Hills United Methodist Church for over fifty years.  She brought her faith into the community by showing love and generosity and loved with her whole heart.

Jean was a passionate fan of R.P.I. men's hockey and could be found wearing her unique fan apparel and cheering the team on at every home game.  Her last night of life she listened to her final game.

She had a way of looking at the most ordinary thing and see beauty.  Among her favorite things to do was take a foliage drive through the hills of her native Vermont.  She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends for many years.

She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and was a loyal friend to many. She always found a way to make every person she met feel special.  She loved to tell a story.

She was also predeceased by her daughter, Allison Kusnezov and sisters: Elizabeth Kano (late husband Kanaan) and Myrtle Corey (late husband Howard).

Surviving members of her family include her daughter, Susan Hull and her former husband, Jonathan. Her son-in-law, Rus Kusnezov, four granddaughters: Natasha (Sean) Rogers, Alexandra (Amir) Bahadori, Emily and Katherine Hull. Jean also leaves a legacy of her two great granddaughters, Vera and Sasha and their sister due in May, Ozra Bahadori. She leaves behind her brother, Charles (Barbara) Downing, as well as dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
