Obituary of Donald Werner

Donald E. Werner, 81 of Margent Court, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side. Born in Minneapolis, MN on July 7, 1931, he was the son of the late Frederick E. and Theresa Pauley Werner. Donald was a 1949 graduate of Central High School in Minnesota. Don enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War, receiving several medals. He met his wife, the former Marlene Daversa and was married at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Schenectady on September 5, 1959. Donald was a Senior Systems Analyst for Sperry-Univac for many years, retiring in 1987. He was an avid fly fisherman, all over the country. Don determined while fishing the specific larvae the trout were striking and made the fly to accentuate his catch. He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed retirement with the companionship of his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandson. His family was the center of his life. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 1817. He was predeceased by his brother Frederick, sister Mercedes and twin sister Donna. Survivors include his wife Marlene Werner, daughter Doreen L. Cramer of Ballston Spa, son Donald F. Werner and his wife Jennifer of Melrose, NY; Grandchildren: Jason Cramer, Jonathan Cramer, Kayla Scalise, Donald F. Werner Jr. (Alicia), Olivia C. Werner and Diedre R. Werner, and special great grandson Lucian Cramer. Donald leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 10:45 AM from the GLENVILLE FUNERAL HOME, 9 Glenridge Rd. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Anthony's Church, Schenectady with Rev. John Facci officiating. Relatives and friends are cordially invited and may also call at the Glenville Funeral Home Thursday morning from 9 AM to 10:45 AM. Interment will be with full military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National VA Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY at 2:00 PM. Online condolences expressed at www.glenvillefuneralhome.com.
