Obituary of Madeline Petraske

Madeline Petraske, 98, finishing her tasks in a peaceful unassuming way,  went  home  to  her Lord, on February 20, 2018. Born on January 24, 1920, in the Goose Hill Section of Schenectady she was the daughter of the late Biaggio and Julia Valentino. A Nott Terrace HS graduate, she went to work during the War effort  at G.E.  A patriotic american,  Madeline married James C. Petraske on June 14, 1942.  The Petraske's raised their family in Rotterdam and were communicants of St. Gabriel's Church. Madeline had worked for Wilson Ball Factory where she made baseballs, the MAQUA Co., was a realtor for McNamara Realty, Jay Jewelry on State St., Lady Lee Evelyn Shop. You could say she "retired" as a Unit Secretary for Ellis Hospital.


 Madeline dediciated her life in helping others. She taught us that with hard work and determination you could achieve anything, and how important it is to give back! She volunteered for most of her life, right up to a few weeks before her death for DAV Chapter 88.Madeline began volunteering in 1942 as a nurses aid during WWII. She also volunteered for the Albany Association for the Blind, Sight Conservation, where she helped to organize the first Blind Bowlers League, Office of the Aging, American Red Cross for 42 years, Lions Club International where she received Lion of the Year Award, delivered Meals on Wheels at the age of 89. She was also a member of the Galway Preservation Society, and chair Lady and inspector on the board of Elections in Rotterdam. She also worked the elections in Galway for many years.


 Madeline was predeceased by her brother, Louis Valentino and sister, Mary DeLuke.


 Survivors include her loving husband James, son Charles J. (Terri) Petraske, and daughters Kathy (Richard) DiCaprio, and Lauren (Rayette Johnson) Petraske; five grandchildren: Charles and Madeline Petraske, Richard DiCaprio Jr., Cory (Kerri) and Jason DiCaprio. Great Grandchildren: Weston Sartin, Kaila DiCaprio, Ashtyn, Brody, Carah, Makenna and Karina DiCaprio and Leonardo Petraske; Jake, Luke and Evan Petraske. Great Great Grandson, Braydon Sartin. Madeline also leaves behind numerous nieces, and nephews.
 

Funeral Services begin Saturday 8 AM from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. in Glenville followed by 9 AM funeral service at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union St. Calling hours Friday  (Feb. 23) 6 PM-8 PM at Glenville Funeral Home. Entombment Memory's Garden Colonie.


 Donations are preferred in memory of Madeline Petraske to NE Association for the Blind, 301 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12206.
