Obituary of Karen A. Matott

Karen A. Matott, 70, passed away suddenly at home after a long illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Almy Jones. Karen was a 1965 graduate of Scotia Glenville High School and retired in 2002 after 30 faithful years as a Driver Improvement Examiner at the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. She married her beloved husband Richard “Red” Matott in 1982. Karen had a special love for cats and enjoyed raising and breeding them. She also enjoyed sewing, machine embroidery, photography and genealogy. 

Karen is survived by her beloved husband Red Matott, son Bruce (Linda) Closson, brother in law Larry (Muriel) Matott, nieces Vicky (Cristen) Babbie and Stephanie (Danny) Drown. She is also survived by her cousins Ray (Karen) Matott and their family as well as Leita Brown and special friends Beth and Elton Cook and their families. She also leaves behind her 7 feline companions. 

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday February 28, 2018 from 10am to 12pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring at Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville, NY.  

Karen’s family would like to thank Dr. Kerry Ricker at Scotia Glenville Family Medicine, Dr. Page Salenger and Dr. Thomas Schumacher at the Rubin Dialysis Center in Clifton Park, and Dr. Howard Schlossberg for the loving care given to Karen over the years.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to a local animal shelter of one’s choice or to the Rubin Dialysis Center 21 Crossings Blvd., Suite B Clifton Park, NY 12065.
