Obituary of Rita S. Ames

Rita S. Ames, 69, passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on March 8, 2018, with her family at her side. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Philomena Popolizio Pidgeon.  Rita was raised in Schenectady and was a 1967 graduate of Linton High School. She married her beloved husband Gregory Ames on January 25, 1970 at St. Anthony’s Church in Schenectady. Rita worked for the NYS Education Department and recently retired after many faithful years from the former Glenville Family Chiropractic, now Scarano Health Solutions.  She loved to garden and had a passion for all flowers. Rita also enjoyed sewing, exercising at the Sunnyview gym, as well as baking and cooking; especially making jelly. She always made sure everyone was fed. Above all, Rita loved her family most importantly her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Gregory, she is survived by her children Michael (Lisa) Ames, Brian (Heidi) Ames, Lisa (Michael) Huchro and April (Alex) Renna. She is the beloved grandma “Bama” to Caleb Huchro, Cameron Huchro, Colby Huchro, Isabelle Ames and Oliver Renna. She is also survived by her sister Donna (Richard) Dennis, brother in law Francis (Barbara) Ames, aunts Clementine DiCocco and Eleanor Cioccke, uncle Ronald Pidgeon, her niece Jennifer (the late Tommie) Croote as well as her great nephews Hunter and Brandon Croote. Several cousins and many friends also survive.

Calling hours for Rita will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 5-7pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. Funeral services will follow at 7pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place privately for the family at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
