Obituary of Stanley Pokrzywka
Stanley Pokrzywka, 91, passed peacefully on April 1st, 2018 with his cherished family by his side. Born in Poland to Joseph and Anna (Sawicka) Pokryzwka; his family immigrated to America in 1926.
Raised in Charlton, NY; Stanley attended a one room school house, which historically is still intact today. He entered the United States Army, where he served his country in World War II.
In 1965, he married his beloved wife, the former Jean Earls Knizek.
Stanley was a talented carpenter. Throughout his long career with the Northeast Carpenter Union, he worked on many projects including the original Rexford Bridge.
He had a passion for gardening and growing onions; he was a member of the Gladiolus Society with his wife. Together they enjoyed traveling and going to farmers markets.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; children, Joseph Knizek III, Joanne Riggs and Joyce (Neil) Murphy; grandchildren, Jean Shatley(Jason Mason), Henry (Susan) Shatley, Joseph W. Knizek, Kelly and Kristy Murphy; siblings, Henry Pokrzywka and Helen Ross.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7PM on Wednesday, April 4th at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. A funeral service will begin at 11 AM on Thursday, April 5th at Glenville Funeral Home, immediately followed by internment at the Gerald B.H.
