Obituary of Kathy Lynn Arn Capel

Kathy Arn Capel was born June 26, 1954 in Kenton, Ohio to Clayton and Kate Arn of Dunkirk, Ohio. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 25, 2018 at the age of 63.

Kathy grew up in Dunkirk, Ohio, the second of two daughters and graduated from Hardin Northern High School in 1972. She received her bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the Ohio State University in 1977. Kathy decided to pursue her Occupational Therapy career in the Albany, New York area. She was involved in the data gathering for the development of the sensory integration and Praxis test developed in 1989 by Jane Ayers. She met many of her lifelong friends during her time in Albany. In more recent years she continued her work as an OT for the Newmeadow Pre-school program.

Kathy met Richard Capel in 1986 and they married in March of 1988. Kathy and Rich welcomed twin boys, Kevin and Kyle Capel in 1989 and they made their home in Scotia.

Family was everything to Kathy and she and Rich enjoyed the many joys of parenthood including many school activities, soccer games and band concerts. One of the many adventures involved Kathy and a friend taking their boys on a trip to Australia and New Zealand to explore the land down under. Their summers were filled with many family trips to visit family and friends.

Kathy was involved in mission trips and church activities and was a dedicated Christian. She always enjoyed the many trips that she and her friends took exploring New England and beyond.

Their two sons were both married in 2014 and Rich and Kathy welcomed three grandchildren, Henry, Clark and Josephine. Much of their time over the past three years has been dedicated to spending time with their kids and getting to know their grandkids.

Kathy brought joy, love and compassion to her family and friends. While her family and friends are devastated by her death, the memories of a life well lived will be with them forever. Her love of life will live on in the lives of her boys and her grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 30 years, Richard Capel, her two sons, Kyle and his wife Lauren and grandson Clark, Kevin and his wife Rachel and grandson Henry and granddaughter Josephine, a brother Steve Arn and his wife Robin, a sister Susan Arn and lifelong friend Jackie, a brother Rodney Arn and his wife Sharon, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends.
