Obituary of Ronald N. Fragomeni
Ronald N. Fragomeni, 86, of Ballston Lake, passed away May 8, 2018 at his residence with his family at his side. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Genevieve Aldinger and Dominick Fragomeni.
Ron was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and received a B.S. in Economics from Sienna College. He attained his private pilot’s license at the age of 17, and was a member of the 139th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, N.Y. National Guard until his enlistment in the U.S. Army. Ronald served in the United States Army Signal Corps as a Cameraman and Lab Technician at the Army Pictorial Center, Long Island City, L.I. during the Korean War and traveled within Korea, Japan and the western United States with the Big “I” camera used for surveillance of enemy fortifications. Upon his discharge, he was employed by the General Electric Co., Schenectady (1955- 1971), as a Motion Picture Film Editor and Production Coordinator for the Advertising and Sales Promotion Department. He edited over 400 productions including working with Walt Disney Studios and producing education movies on Steinmetz, Edison and other engineering advances developed by General Electric.
He married the former Dolores Santarcangelo in Scotia on May 19, 1956. A few years later they established Distinque Kennels, specializing in the breeding of over 100 black A.K.C. standard poodles, bred and trained for show, pleasure and hunting. In 1964, they established Fragomeni Agency, Inc., an independent insurance agency located in Ballston Lake. In 1984, they purchased Stewart’s, Goetz and Stiles, Inc. agency in Saratoga, establishing Fragomeni Associates, Inc., which they ran until their retirement. He was also President of the Independent Agents Association for Schenectady County.
Ronald was very active in Schenectady Light Opera Co appearing in the chorus when he was 11 years old. Later he enjoyed supporting the lead roles in “The Mikado”, “Song of Norway”, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”, “Annie Get Your Gun”, and his favorite role as Fagin in “Oliver”. He also served as Commodore of the Schenectady Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores S. Fragomeni, his son David Allan Fragomeni of Saratoga Springs, his daughter, Jennifer Ann O’Connor of Boca Raton, Florida and cherished grandchildren: Olivia, Alexandar, Isabella and Francesca Fragomeni and Brianna O’Connor. Ronald is also survived by several nieces and cousins. A private gathering to celebrate the life of Ronald will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours, and entombment will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum.
