Obituary of William Barkowski Jr.
William "Ski" Barkowski Jr., 90, of Scotia, passed peacefully on July 9, 2018.
William was born October 13, 1927 to William Sr. and Mary Barkowski.
A life long resident of the Schenectady, NY area, he attended vocational high school for electrical studies before enlisting in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1952, proudly serving his country as a Fireman First Class upon the USS White Marsh (LSD-8) , earning a Victory Medal for his service in World War II.
Employed for many years as a driver for McNearny Distributing Company of Schenectady, "Ski" was well known and liked along his routes throughout the Capital District.
Ever hardworking and diligent, he often took on additional employment and despite formally retiring, continued to work well into his 80's.
William's most cherished role was that of father, devoting all of his time to his family. A kind and generous man, his door was always open and all were welcome. He enjoyed listening to 50's and 60's era Country music, watching football and sit- coms and caring for his home and children.
William is survived by his sons, William Barkowski III ( Lisa Newberry) of Waterford and Michael Barkowski of Saratoga Springs; step children William King IV ( Rebecca Walker) of West Coxsackie and Jacqueline Albino of Melrose. Grandchildren Nicholas, William and Autumn Barkowski and Daisha King. Brother, Edward Barkowski, former spouse Mary Ann Fraking , Godson John Barkowski and many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He is predeceased by his parents William and Mary Barkowski, twin brother Charles (Stella) Barkowski, sister Dorothy (Simeon) Richmire, sister Helen ,brother Ignatius, sister-in-law Virginia Barkowski and granddaughter, Kya Barkowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday July 13 at 10 AM at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, LaFayette St. Schenectady. .Rev. Dominic Isopo will officiate the mass. A calling period will precede from 9 AM - 10 AM at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dunnsville Rd. in Rotterdam.
