Obituary of Reginald Loren Less

Reginald Loren Less, 81, died peacefully at his home in Glenville, NY on July 6th with his devoted wife and children at his side. Reggie and his beloved wife, Kath, met the long challenge of his Alzheimer's with love and laughter.He was born in Schenectady on December 24, 1936, the only child of the late Reginald and Ann Zeglen Lesnieski.He graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1954 and the State University of NY College for Teachers at Albany in 1959. He served in the Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Pine Bluff Arsenal, Arkansas from 1959 to 1961.Reggie worked for the NYS Dept of Commerce, Dept of Environmental Conservation, and later the Dept of Taxation and Finance, retiring from government service in 1992.He married the former Katherine Anne Taylor on August 27, 1966 and together they shared almost 52 years of marriage.In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter, Patricia A. Less, of St Louis, MO; his son, James L. Less, and his wife, Kimberly, of Canyon Country, CA; his son Gregory T. Less of Middle Grove, NY; his granddaughter Madeline M. Less; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.He was an avid sportsman and sports fan his entire life, supporting the NY Rangers Hockey team since 1943. He was an active member of St Joseph's Athletic Club for more than 50 years, competing in the bowling and golf leagues. At the age of 66, he bowled his best game of 299! He learned to ski as a young man and continued throughout his life, eventually becoming a member of the 70+ Ski Club.He enjoyed spending time with his children and supporting their activities, from coaching Jim's baseball teams for many years, to introducing Patty and Jim to his high school sport, track and field. He was a founding member of the Burnt Hills Track Club, attending and timekeeping at every one of their high school meets. Later, he shared his love of bowling with Greg, participating with him on his team, Strike Force.Reggie loved driving across the country in his motorhome with Kathy and often Greg as well. He and Greg enjoyed riding historic steam trains, and Patty shared his love of hockey, joining him to see his beloved NY Rangers play in 18 different NHL arenas. He was very proud of Jim's Air Force and NASA career and enjoyed visiting the different bases he was stationed at and seeing the planes he flew. He enjoyed nothing more than activities with his family and friends: golfing with his cousins Billy and Dave, downhill skiing with his friend Walt, going to "The Barn" for concerts with his in-laws, Dorothy, Mary and Bill, and George and Pat. He had many fond memories of spending time with his late cousin, Paul and wife, Peg. He was honored to be godfather to his niece, Susan. In recent years he loved introducing his granddaughter, Madeline, to the simple pleasures of his childhood - swimming and playing card games at the family camp on Sacandaga Lake. He loved spoiling his cats Ichabod and Little Toot.Services will be held on Thurs, July 12th, at 9:15 a.m. from the Glenville Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd, Glenville. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Wed, July 11th at the Glenville Funeral Home on Glenridge Rd.
