Obituary of Louis R. Croce Sr.
Louis R. Croce Sr., age 90, passed away on July 17, 2018 at Hawthorne Inn in Lakeland, Florida.
Born in St. Johnsville, NY, he was the beloved son of the late Salvatore and Madeline (Perretta) Croce.
As a young boy his family moved to Schenectady where Louis graduated from Nott Terrace High School (Class of '45).
He then enlisted in the US Navy where he served proudly from '45-'47. Lou worked for General Electric Company as a mechanic in LM&G servicing trucks and trains for 38 years.
Louis married the former Nancy Connery in 1950, the ceremony held at Galway Reformed Church. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, V.F.W. and the Order of the Son's of Italy in America. Lou was an avid car racing fan, often enjoying races at Fonda and Daytona Speedway tracks. Automotive inclined himself, he built several cars from the frame to complete restoration, all the while preferring the GM brand.
He was predeceased by his wife Nancy in 2003, his son, Richard Croce, daughter, Judith DeCrosta, brother, Salvatore (Barbara) Croce and grandson, Dallas Croce.
Left to cherish his legacy are his sons: Sam F. Croce (Doreen) of W. Glenville and Louis Croce Jr. (Bridgette) of Lakeland, FL; his daugter in law Kristine Croce, his brother, Stephen (Elaine) Croce of Schenectady and his sister, Angelina Barton of Rochester, NY. His cherished grandchildren: Shannon (Shaun) Howe, Collette, Erin and Louis Croce; Anthony and Angela Croce. Louis leaves behind his great grandchildren: Ava and Lea Howe and Gino, Sophia and Marco Croce. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, August 24,2018 from 10 to 11am at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road Glenville. Funeral services will follow at 11am at the funeral home with Rev.
