William J Horgan posted a condolence
Saturday, April 13, 2013
Dear Patsy Farone Family, My name is Bill Horgan and Patsy was a friend and mentor of mine. I was so saddened to hear of his passing and your loss. I had not even heard that he was sick, so I was shocked to hear he had died. I had not spoken to him in a couple of years, but I considered him a friend and mentor of mine. I think it is important for me to tell you how important Patsy was in my life. In many cases, and this is one, we rarely notice how important a person is in our lives. I remember when my dad died. I was 14 years old. As most 14 year old children are at these times, I was very emotional. I remember my mother telling me of a poem by John Donne. It goes: “No man is an island. We are all part of the main. Never ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.” I loved hearing this, and 37 years later it still means something to me. What it meant was that, not only did my father die that day, but so did a portion of me. So did a portion of you. “We are all part of the main.” We all die a little when someone we know dies, and for that matter, when someone we don’t know dies. Not long after that I heard a quote that was similar, but very different. It goes: “We are a part of everyone we have ever known.” I love this quote. What it meant to me was that my father would never die. His legacy was in everyone he ever knew, and therefore, in everyone I knew. In that manner, he would never die. I now live in Columbus Ohio, so due to that, and a very busy business travel schedule I have, I was not able to make it to the services for Patsy. I feel bad, because he was important to me. I was on my riding mower today and thinking about Patsy, and I started to cry at my/our loss. I started to think how Patsy was the very first mentor in my business life. I started to think of the many things he had taught me. The skills I had in many cases were there because of Pat. I started to realize how the very lawn mower I was riding on, in some ways, I could thank Pat for. The very lawn I was cutting in some manner I owed some credit to Pat. Without his mentorship, without his care and help, I would not be riding on that lawn mower, cutting that lawn, and be as successful as I was. My wife called to tell me dinner was ready, and as I walked inside I remembered that I met her at the very same dealership, Metro Ford, which I first met Pat. He hired me as a service advisor in the early 1980’s. I was hired there again in the early 1990’s, after Patsy left, to be Service Manager, the position Patsy had when I worked there previously. I met my wife while I was manager. I would not have been hired in that position if it were not because of Pat. Therefore, I would not have met my wife, were it not because of my relationship with Pat. I had tears in my eyes as I entered the house for dinner, as I thought of this, and I sat and ate dinner with my children, I was grateful to Patsy, for the two wonderful children that I have. Were it not for Patsy, I would not be sitting in that chair at that very time, talking to those children that Patsy gifted me with. I would not have seen the soccer game this morning my son was involved in, or I would not have heard the joy in my daughters voice, when she came running into the house to tell me she got a solo in the caberet program at school. I was asked to move to the Columbus Ohio area, to train in automotive dealerships, because of the skills and abilities I have. Those skills and abilities have been developed in part because of my relationship with Patsy Farone. I live in Pataskala Ohio, because I do training in automobile dealerships. I have trained in dealerships in 45 of the 50 states, and 4 of the 10 provinces in Canada, and in every case I tell stories about Patsy Farone and how he helped to teach me to be the person I am today. Next week, when I go to New Mexico for the first time, my forty sixth state, and the week after when I go to Alberta Canada for the first time, my fifth province, I will tell these stories with renewed energy and meaning. Pat has touched my life in so many ways that I am so grateful for, and I had not even realized. Because of that, he has touched so many other people’s lives in so many other ways. In ways they may never realize, but Patsy Farone is a part of everyone he has ever known, and everyone I have ever known. However, just as my mother told me almost 37 years ago, On Saturday, April 13, 2013, we all buried a piece of ourselves. I miss you Pat. I will look hard to see you in my children, because in some ways you are there, right next to my dad. Say hello to him for me please. Tell him I love him.

Pat will be missed. He was a good friend from the early days. We spent a lot of time talking about cars and motors, and of course joking about bondo (Mike. Montanaro).
