Obituary of Paul E. Podhorez

Paul E. Podhorez, 94, died at Valley Hospital on December 16, 2018.  Beloved husband of 63 years to Irene (Rouillard) Podhorez; loving father of David (Kelly) Podhorez of Midland, MI , Michael Podhorez of Scottsdale AZ, Marie (Paul) Piccininni of Mahwah, NJ and Audrey (Edward) Chervansky of Fairfield, CT; cherished grandfather of Mark, Eric and Jeffrey Podhorez, Daniel Piccininni and Amy Chervansky.  Brother of John Podhorez (Joanne) of Decatur, GA, Theresa Newman of York, PA and Barbara Dunham of Johnstown, NY.  Numerous nieces and nephews survive. Paul was predeceased by his sisters, Martha Menniti, Marian Kuzbel and Julia Kralik.
Born in Johnstown, NY he was the son of the late Paul and Julia (Urbassik) Podhorez. He graduated from Johnstown High School and proceeded with his sought after dream to become the first of his family to earn a college degree. After two years at the University of Pittsburgh, Paul was drafted into the United States Army during WWII, where he served with the 75th infantry in Europe attaining the rank of Corporal.  Paul returned from defending his country and successfully completed his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.  He was employed his entire carrier by G.E. starting in Erie, PA. He was transferred to Schenectady, NY where he met and married his wife Irene.  Shortly after, they started a family and moved to Glenville (Jennifer Rd.) holding residence for over 50 years. They moved to Coburg Village in 2012 and most recently to NJ to be close to their daughter. 
Paul belonged to ETA KAPPA NU honor society of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, GEAA where he was vice president for several terms, Quarter Century Club, as well as other professional organizations.
The Podhorez family have been longtime parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church in Scotia where Paul was a Holy Name Society member.  When time permitted the Podhorez’s loved to travel and Paul enjoyed following the stock market.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, December 21st 10 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 231 Second Street. Scotia.  Family and friends will be received on Thursday (Dec 20) from 4-7 PM at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Scotia-Glenville. Burial with honors at the Gerald Solomon National Cemetery are slated for 12:30PM Friday.  Contributions in memory of Paul Podhorez may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, 45 MacArthur Dr. Scotia, NY 12302 or the Alumni Fund at University of Pittsburgh, 4200 5th Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15213-9972.  Online condolences are expressed at GLENVILLEFUNERALHOME.COM
