Obituary of Rick Smith

Rick Smith, 56 of McArthur Drive, Glenville passed away May 6, 2013 at Sunnyview Hospital after a couragous battle with cancer. Born in Niskayuna, Rick is the son of Cynthia (O'Flarity) Smith and the late Philip Smith. Rick was a member of the Scotia-Glenville class of '74 and was involved in track and field. He went on to graduate from HVCC specializing in Automotive Science. Rick married the love of his life Marjie (Krone) Smith on September 3, 1983. He succesfully created two businesses, RSS Enterprises and Smitty's Remodeling and ran them single handedly for years. He went on to work at the downtown GE plant then to the R&D Center as a Master Craftsman. Rick's passions include photography, SCUBA diving, motorcycles, exotic sports cars and spending time at the family camp on Loon Lake. Most of all his family was the center of his life. Aside from his mother,Cindy, he is survived by his beloved wife, Marjie, his daughter, Jessica Smith (Leo Barber), son Stephen Smith, and daughter Brianna Smith each of Glenville. His brothers Brian (Sherry) Smith, and Scott Smith. Along with two cherished grandsons Kaleb and Kaden Barber. He is also lovingly survived by his in-laws and many nieces and nephews. Rick's family would especially like to thank the endearing staff at Sunnyview Hospital for all their support. A memorial service will be held Saturday May 11 at 3PM at Glenville Funernal Home, 9 Glenridge Rd, Glenville. An informal visitation will be held prior from 1-3PM. Memorial contributations may be made to the American Cancer Association or to Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
