Obituary of William M Przybycien

William M. Przybycien (Bill), 84, went home with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 7, 2020. Bill was born in Oneida, NY to Michael and Helen Przybycien on January 20, 1936. In his youth, and throughout his life, he was always a devoted church member. He served as an altar boy at St. Joseph’s Church in Oneida. He also participated in Boy Scouts and earned the highest rank becoming an Eagle Scout. Bill loved working in the basement woodshop with his father, where he learned woodworking and carpentry skills that he later used to add a garage and large enclosed porch to his first home. Bill graduated from Oneida High School in 1953 and completed his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering at Clarkson University in 1957. While at Clarkson, Bill served as a Freshman Class President, sat on the student Board of Governors, was a resident dorm advisor, member of the ROTC, member of Pi Tau Sigma Honorary Society and President of the Theta Chi fraternity. While attending Clarkson Bill met his wife, Rosemary, who was a student at the NY State Teachers College at Potsdam. After college, they were married in a double wedding ceremony alongside Rosemary’s sister Joan and her husband, Don. Bill then began his career of 35 years with General Electric at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, NY and also went on to complete his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at RPI in 1961. His career was focused on engineering design for the U.S. Navy’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. Bill was a resident of Glenville, NY for almost 60 years and was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. At Immaculate Conception, Glenville, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and also worked to develop the teen youth group there - helping out through its early days. While on a four-year assignment for G.E. at Babcock & Wilcox in Virginia, he was a parishioner of St. Thomas More and was active with Cursillo and its prison ministry. He continued that ministry at the Mount McGregor facility upon the family’s return to New York. Bill enjoyed golfing, carpentry, yard work, family camping trips at spots up and down the east coast and loved watching NY Yankees baseball. Sports were always important to him. He was given the moniker “Bullet Bill” as a member of his high school varsity basketball team and he once threw a “no-hitter” while playing softball on a local adult league team in Oneida. He enjoyed coaching local Little League baseball teams, was a dedicated Yankees fan and looked forward to attending Old Timer’s Day each year with family. In his later years, he was an avid supporter of his wife’s love of music and enjoyed listening to her play violin. He enjoyed attending the Music Company Orchestra’s concerts including the annual “Cabaret” performance for many years. Visiting and helping friends and family were always part of his active life. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and brother- a man blessed by God who shared the blessing with others. He is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Helen Przybycien and his grandson, Craig Przybycien. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rosemary, his brother, Frank Przybycien of Utica, NY, His sons: Robert Przybycien of Lynchburg, VA, Thomas Przybycien (Debora) of St. Augustine, FL, John Przybycien (Julie) of Ballston Lake, NY, his daughter, Elizabeth Opie of Ballston Lake, NY, his grandchildren: Thomas, Richelle, Lillia and Tori Przybycien, Anna and John Opie, Madeline McMurray and Michael Przybycien, his great-grandchildren: Michaela and Noah Przybycien and many nephews, nieces, cousins and longtime friends. The family is forever grateful to Bill’s caregivers, Colleen, Harmony and Kay for the love and care they provided as he battled Alzheimer’s.
