Diane Finley posted a condolence

I know Charles from a church association. He was on our board when his wife, Mary, passed. In my position as Secretary I sent Charles a heartfelt condolence. Life was difficult for him for awhile, but we would communicate infrequently by phone because I wanted to see how he was doing and to share any helpful words I could. After a bit, this type of sharing of moral and spiritual support became something that helped us both, and we had many deep conversations about life and God, our love of animals, and even the government! Charles and I were spiritual friends who really understood each other. I have a deep respect for Charles' intelligence, his ideas, and his love for life and caring about others. And as most know, he loved his ducks — and his cat, Binky. I know that his family and friends will miss him a lot, and I'm sure that Binky will, too. I just lost my dad, but his beloved dog, Kate, found a new happy home not soon after. So I pray the same for Charles' beloved Binky, who spent most of his life the last months in Charles' lap. Mostly, I pray that Charles' family, Cindy and her husband Dick, and Neale, and other members will be comforted by the fact that Charles lived a long, happy life, and was mentally alert — even driving, a few days before he passed. What an addition to your memories and the legacy of a fine, fine man.

I have such fond memories and love for Uncle Charlie! He is such a gentle, caring and joyous soul! I always loved seeing him and cherished his passionate enthusiasm for his ducks and Rovers and motorcycles and his orchards! I learned much from him! He was dedicated to what he loved, and loved a lot! Tons of love to Cindy and Neale!!!!

I joined the Shenendehowa administrative staff in July, 1970. At that time I was the assistant principal of the new Middle A school working with Gary Adelson. Charles was a member of the Board of Education and I had seveal oportunities to work with him. I will always remember him as a bright, sensitive, unassuming man who always saw the positives in life. His children went through our school and presented themselves much like their father and mother. I'm sorry for your collective loss but please know that Charles was a very respected person. My prayers are with him today.
