Obituary of Charles Stutt

Charles Adolphus Stutt, 91, of Rexford passed away quietly in his home on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. He was son of Harry John and Ruby Dorman Stutt, grew up in Avoca, Nebraska where he attended the one-room schoolhouse. He was valedictorian of his high school class of 1939. He graduated in 1944 from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Being deferred from World War II for industry, his skills were needed for the advancement of radio communications as part of the war effort in Rochester, NY. In 1946 he attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a Doctor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1950. He was employed at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington from 1952-57. He moved to Schenectady (Rexford) in 1957 to work for General Electric Research and Development Lab, specializing in statistical theory of communications. He managed a program in signal processing and communications until his retirement in 1985. Volunteer activities include serving a 5-year term on the school board at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park from 1967-72 after service on the junior high curriculum committee and the committee to plan and build the current high school. He was First Reader at First Church of Christ, Scientist in Schenectady, in Troy, and in Saratoga. Most recently he was a member of the church in Saratoga. He married Mary Neale in 1955; together they had two children: Cynthia Stutt Cummings, currently of Stow, MA and Neale Harry Stutt, of Clayton, North Carolina. A gentle, kind, loving and dedicated son, husband and father, he loved and was loved by his family and all who knew him. His Christian Science faith was the central tenet in his life. He showed true geniality and compassion to all around him. His many hobbies included planting trees and feeding wildlife including over 200 ducks who wintered over on his pond. He collected Rover sedans including the TC2000 and 3 liter models, was also an avid motorcyclist, his first, a BSA bought while living in England during 1951. A private memorial service will be held by family members. Arrangements are being taken care of by Glenville Funeral Home.
