Dear Karen and Family -- It was just a few months before her seventh birthday when my mother Audrey received the joyful news that her Aunt Marcella and Uncle Ted had been blessed on St. Patrick’s Day 1932 with the arrival of a sweet baby girl who was to be given the Baptismal name Constance. Over the decades, my heritage-hunting Mom often expressed gratitude that the ancestral roots she shared with “Cousin Connie” had positioned their branches in close proximity to one another’s on the Bopp family tree. When the darkest clouds appeared in the sky, the younger cousin with the twinkling eyes and sunbeam wide smile would reportedly comfort others with reminders that a rainbow would surely appear in the sky after the storm had passed. Little wonder that an inspiring part of Cousin Connie’s legacy is that she weathered storms of life linked to her long leukemia battle not only with courage and strength, but also with dignity and grace. What better image to embrace as we grieve the passing of one who brought so much love, light and laughter into the world than that of a heavenly arc of colors designed by our Creator as a symbol of hope and renewal!
