Obituary of George V. Chapek

George V. Chapek, 71, of Glenville, passed away peacefully at his home on May 31, 2021.

George was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland and would receive his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy and his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Union College in Schenectady.

George obtained his New York State Professional Engineer License and was an engineering supervisor. He was employed with Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna and Plug Power in Latham for several years. In 1996, he became a U.S. Patent holder and received the K.A.P.L Engineering/Scientist Award for his Outstanding Technical Contribution in 1997. George was also an amateur radio operator N2AIG (extra class) and would receive the Schenectady Amateur Radio Association-Henry Primm Broughton Award for Outstanding Public Service in 1985. He enjoyed photography, sailing, and auto racing where he often worked as a pit crew member and mechanic.

George was the son of
 the late George and Florence Chapek and is survived by his loving wife, Karen Chapek; daughter, Jennifer Moon and her husband Jay; grandsons, Jackson and Everett; sisters, Elaine, Janette, and Vivian; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Limeri, Dr. Nolan, and Dr. Vassolas for their exceptional care.
 
George will be remembered by all who knew him as a friendly fun-loving man who cherished life and his family and friends.
