Obituary of Francis "Fran" Miner

Francis H. Miner, 95, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2021 after a short stay at Glendale Home. Born in Glens Falls, NY and raised in Hartford, NY on his family farm he was the son of the late Henry and Bessie (Robinson) Miner. Following high school Fran proudly served his country in WWII as a US Army Infantryman from 1943-1945. As part of Operation Anvil, Fran saw intense combat with the Germans in Southern France and the Colmar region.  During this period he was captured by the Germans and held as a prisoner of war for several months.  For his service Fran received the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Bronze Star.  Following the Army, Fran attended Becker Junior College in Worcester, MA. and worked at General Electric in Schenectady as an accountant for 39 years. He married his beloved late wife Damasita A. Miner on November 23, 1974.  Together they shared many wonderful times until her passing in 2007. Fran resided in Charlton, NY for many years and was very active in town activities. He also raised and maintained sheep on his farm in Charlton. Fran faithfully served as a Mason for 74 years. Following retirement he obtained his pilot's license and was very active with the Empire State Aerosciences Museum. Above all, he enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family and will always be remembered for farming, family, faith and flying. 

 

Left to cherish Fran’s memory are his children Cheryl Phillips, William Miner (Debbi), Mary Miner, Kathleen (Allen) Hole (Edward) and Damasita (Allen) Sanchez (Edward). Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. In addition to his parents, Fran was predeceased by his wife Damasita. 

 

A calling hour will be held on July 8, 2021 from 10-11am at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A funeral service will follow at 11am. Interment with full military honors will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Fran’s name may be made to the Empire State Aerosciences Museum, 250 Rudy Chase Drive Glenville, NY 12302.
