Peter Quinn III

Obituary of Peter J. Quinn III

Peter Joseph Quinn III, 82, died peacefully at his home on August 14, 2021.

Peter was born May 30, 1939 in Gloversville, New York to parents Peter Quinn Jr. and Nina Quinn (Daum). Raised and educated in Gloversville, Peter spent his childhood working various jobs at an early age such as paperboy and soda vendor at the hometown staple Washburn’s.

Following his graduation from Gloversville High School, Peter joined the Navy where he admirably served our Country for the next four years. During his time in service, Peter was stationed on a refueling ship for the Cuban Blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.  Upon a most honorable discharge from the Navy, Peter returned home and continued his studies majoring in IT at Hudson Valley Community College. Peter then began his new career with Unisys where he remained for 30 years until his retirement. Ever the hard worker, post-retirement Peter worked as a school bus driver for the Ballston Spa School District for the next 23 years.

Around the same time he began his career, Peter met his future wife Mary Clark on a blind date. On September 22, 1962, just six months later, they were married. This marriage produced three children, Bradley, Lynda, and Kelly. This union lasted 23 beautiful years until Mary passed away in 1985.

On May 15, 1988, Peter was remarried to Kathleen Grandy of Scotia, joining her ten children creating a family of 15. Peter remained married to Kathleen until his passing.

Peter enjoyed countless achievements in his lifetime, though he was quite proud of his time spent working as a Programmer on various service modules for NASA’s famous Apollo Mission. Peter was also a gifted craftsman who enjoyed building intricate dollhouses for his daughters and granddaughters while also being the most reliable handyman this world has ever seen.

Among his most cherished accomplishments is the massive family he created. Peter was a loving grandfather to 34 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Known affectionately as “Grandpa Pete”, Peter received tremendous satisfaction in helping his family. His family is incredibly fortunate having had such a wonderful example of what it means to be a strong leader with a kind heart.

Peter is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kathleen, as well as thirteen children; James Grandy (Laura), Shawn Grandy (Peggy), Lori Ciarmiello (late Michael), Susan Cremo (Bill), Bradley Quinn (Claire), Lynda Quinn, Kacey Fialkowski (Mark), Pam Dusanek (Frank), Kelly Burns (Porter), Patty Williams (Tim), Kyle Grandy (Kim), Jennifer Grandy and Michael Grandy.
