Obituary of Michael Ciarmiello

Michael E. Ciarmiello, 55, of Scotia, died at his home on August 17,2013 after a most courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by hisloving and devoted family. Mike was born in Schenectady on December 10, 1957, the son of the late Salvatore and Mary Ann Cuomo Ciarmiello. He was a standout athlete at Scotia-Glenville H.S. captaining his football and wrestling teams, culminating with an election into the Scotia-Glenville Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993. Mike went onto a successful wrestling career at Springfield College, earning All-American honors and winning the New England Championships as a freshman. Mike received his BA from Springfield in 1980 in Art and Urban Life, and went on to be a Medical Illustrator for AMC, and later Community Care Physicians. Mike was an accomplished artist having his work appear in many publications over his career, earning several awards for his brilliant work. Mike showed a great love for life and family. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, playing chess with his sons, and sharing laughs with friends. Survivors include his wife Lori, sons Michael James (wife Holly) and Daniel (fiance Gina), all of Scotia; sisters Mary Grace (Raymond) Dansereau of Albany, Sue Ann Ciarmiello of Guilderland, and Rose Marie (Arthur) Hewig of Chatham; Beautiful granddaughters Emilia Jane and Elyssa Mary Ciarmiello. He is the beloved son-in-law to Peter and Kathleen Quinn of Glenville. Mike is also survived by 37 nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his brother Salvatore J. Ciarmiello in 1993. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and most importantly a friend to all who knew him. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 20 at Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Rd. (Rte 146A) Ballston Lake at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are cordially invited and may also call Monday (August 19) from 4 PM to 8 PM at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville. Burial will be at Park Cemetery, Scotia.
