Margarethe (Selzer) Vandenberg, 95, passed away Monday, November 22,2021 at Greenwich Hospital Greenwich, CT. Born on July 29, 1926, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Selzer.
Marga, as she was known to friends and family, was born in Worms , Germany. She studied nursing and after World War II she emigrated to the United States and worked as a health care provider. She met her late husband Leonard Vandenberg while providing health care services to Leonard's mother. They were married for 52 years until Leonard’s passing in 2014.
Marga enjoyed many traditions of her German heritage including baking and singing. She often traveled back to Germany. Marga loved the Holidays and prepared many festive Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday meals for family and friends.
Of particular joy for Marga was singing with the Thursday Musical Club in Schenectady, NY and performing in the Our Redeemer Church Bell Choir.
She is survived by her nephew Tom Vandenberg and his wife Joyce of White Plains, NY, their son Thomas of Asoria, NY and nephew John Vandenberg and wife Jane of Sherwood, OR and cousins Dagmar Piatek, Ingrid Junga. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her sister Rena.
Visiting hours will be Saturday November 27th from 1-3 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. Funeral services will follow at 3pm at the funeral home with Pastor Daniel May officiating. Burial will take place alongside her husband Leonard at the Mahwah Cemetery, Mahwah NJ on Tuesday, November 30th at 1pm.
