It was a cold Saturday night in January 1970. The ice on Saratoga Lake was smooth & there was 3-4” of snow cover. I met Tommy T. at Mangino’s restaurant around 5 that night. Mangino’s was the place to be if you were a snowmobiler & had a fast sled. Tom brought his Rupp 634WT & I had my Rupp440SS. As we rode to the lake I went straight out about 200 yards so as to watch Tom line up with 20-30 snowmobiles in front of Brown’s Beach. It was just about 1/4 mile away and when I saw the headlights go bright I knew the race was on.

One sled out on the end came out like a shot and was by far the faster than them all and you guessed, it was Tom. He won the race easily and then a sled pulled up to Tom and I. It was Irvin Grant and his 669 Ski Doo. He asked Tom, “what is it & how could it be so fast?” I still remember Big T lifting his arms in the air and saying “it’s a Rupp!”

We will always remember the great times we had on the boat at Sandy Bay and the great party’s at the house during Christmas holidays with the house decorated to the nines!! Tom was a wonderful person and if you were his friend he was your friend for life. We will miss him dearly and we know he will always be watching over his family from above! We love you Tom and will do our best to help Pat get through losing you. You are in our hearts forever Walt and Gina Richter ❤️
