Obituary of Carolyn Elizabeth Erwetowski

Carolyn Elizabeth Erwetowski, 72, passed peacefully away on January 22, 2022. Born in Schenectady, NY to her late parents, George and Elizabeth (Kruszona-Buyce) Pahl. A 1967 graduate of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School, she planted her roots in Scotia-Glenville, where she raised her children. 

Her most cherished role was being a mother. She was always present for her children and actively supported them, from being their Girl Scout leader, Little League softball coach, role model, and confidant.  There was nothing Carolyn wouldn’t do for her girls. 

Later in life, Carolyn went back to school to receive her teaching degree from The College of Saint Rose. She continued her own mother’s legacy at Schenectady ARC working as a counselor and facilitator for adults with special needs. Carolyn adored her work at ARC and helped many individuals reach milestones of independence. 

Carolyn enjoyed being out in nature whether it was sailing on the water while growing up, camping with her family, or birdwatching in her backyard.  She loved traveling, especially to the beach.  Her favorite destinations included Cape Cod; Virginia Beach; Sacandaga Lake; her friend’s, Lazy River House; and visiting Maryland and Washington, DC.

Family and friends will always remember Carolyn’s selflessness, kindness, and friendly smile.  Her warm personality made people naturally gravitate toward her and engage in conversation.  She touched so many lives throughout her life.  

In her spare time, you would find Carolyn writing children’s stories, crafting, needle-working, and gardening. She was a talented crocheter and knitter who made countless hats, baby blankets, slippers, and afghans over her lifetime. Carolyn was a creator, whether it was something she crafted or cultivated in her flourishing garden; she left this world more beautiful. 

Predeceased by her brother, Ronald Pahl. 

To continue Carolyn’s memory are her daughters, Andrea Erwetowski and Laura (John) Erwetowski Fosmire; sisters, Christine Pahl and Kathryn (Louis) Tomaino; cherished nephews, Michael and David Tomaino. 

A lover of animals, she will be missed by her adored fur-babies, Zoey and Lennox and her grand-kitties, Liberty, Brooklyn, Finnegan, Keagan, Lilly, and Bella.

Calling hours will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home on Monday, January 31st from 5 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of Immaculate Conception on Tuesday, February 1st at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Carolyn’s bright personality would want everyone to wear colorful attire for her funeral gatherings.
