Obituary of Stephen G. Nygaard

Stephen G. Nygaard, 57, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on January 25, 2022 with his family at his side. Born in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Gunnar and Edna (Twetan) Nygaard. Steve was a 1982 graduate of Schuylerville High School and went on to continue his education at Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. He married his beloved wife Heather (Aitken) Nygaard on June 7, 1998. Steve worked for 18 years at the Albany Times Union as a Mailer retiring in 2015. Following retirement, he became the Facilities Director at Faith Baptist Church in Rexford. Steve cherished his job at Faith Baptist Church and was a dedicated faithful member. He loved the Lord, and his faith was a fundamental aspect of his life. Steve enjoyed going on mission trips, assisting coaching boys’ basketball and playing pickleball. Above all, he treasured the time he was able to spend with his family and will be remembered for his friendly demeanor, having never met a stranger. 

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Heather Nygaard, his sons Ian and Shane Nygaard; Siblings, Sissel Rowe (Tom), Kristin Donovan (Mike), Eva Wood (Dan) and Gordon Nygaard (Shelly). Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family members and friends also survive.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 11 Glenridge Road Rexford, NY 12148. Burial will take place in the spring at South Wilton Cemetery.
