Obituary of Angelo A. Mercurio

Angelo A. Mercurio, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 8, 2022. Born in Troy, NY to his late parents, John and Barbara (D’Aloia) Mercurio.

A 1947 graduate of Mechanicville High School, he continued his education at the Albany College of Pharmacy. After graduation in 1951, he continued his work as a licensed pharmacist before entering the United States Army as a pharmacist. From 1953 to 1955, Angelo proudly served his country during the Korean War.

After being honorably discharged, Angelo began his long and successful career as a Pharmacist. For a short period, he was employed by Marra’s Pharmacy in Cohoes, during this time he met the love of his life, the former, Rose M. DaMassa. They were married in 1956, and began their life together in Glenville. In 1968, they built their dream home in Burnt Hills.

For over 40 years, Angelo worked as the town pharmacist in Burnt Hills, NY at Veeder and Yelverton.  Angelo was the friendly, reliable face at the pharmacy, who was beloved by all. He was celebrated and publicly recognized by his community for his 40 year milestone as a pharmacist, and will forever be remembered for his generosity, care and service oriented nature. In 1985, he proudly purchased Veeder and Yelverton Pharmacy. After a successful career, he sold the business to CVS in 1996. Angelo continued to work as a pharmacist until he was 81, officially retiring in 2010.

If Angelo was not working behind the counter, he would be giving back to his community that he loved so much. He volunteered at Glendale Nursing Home, donated blood through the Red Cross, devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a parishioner of the Church of Immaculate Conception in Glenville.

Before all else, family was most important to Angelo. He was a proud father and grandfather. The family will forever remember annual trips to Cape Cod, Angelo’s love for music by Frank Sinatra, his passion for reading, especially on American History, and being around those he loved.

Predeceased by his sister, Mary Lou Paley.

Angelo is survived by his loving wife, Rose M. Mercurio; beloved children, Mark (Dana) Mercurio and Lisa (Stuart) Hemming; cherished grandchildren, Kathryn Rose Hemming, Stephen Hemming, Dominick Mercurio and Noelle Mercurio; sister, Eleanor Notar.
