Alan Dehn

Obituary of Alan Leonard Dehn

Alan L. Dehn passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022 in Albany, NY.

Born on July 2, 1949 in Schenectady, NY, Alan grew up in Niskayuna NY. A 1970 graduate of Niskayuna High School, he later graduated from Hudson Valley Community College.

Alan was always willing to help others, both in his job delivering life-saving oxygen to home-bound patients or in his volunteer work for local organizations. He was an avid sports fan, especially when it comes to the Yankees, the New York Giants or the local Scotia high school sports teams.   He freely gave his time to coach CYO basketball teams and was delighted when he ran into former players; this was especially true if his former players were with their families and Alan could tell them of the flaws in their father’s shooting technique. More recently he assisted the local American Legion baseball team.

He will be best remembered for lending his unique brand of constructive criticism to players, referees, and coaches at Scotia High School basketball games.

He is survived by his siblings, Jonathan Dehn and Mary Dehn Reynolds, cousins Mark Mueller and Elizabeth Mueller Stead, nieces Emeline and Amanda and nephews Jackson and Turner.  He is predeceased by his parents, Rudolph and Elizabeth Dehn.

Friends and family are welcomed to the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Scotia, NY on Monday, October 17th from 6 to 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion National Emergency Fund, Donation Processing, PO Box 1954, Indianapolis, IN 46206. Online condolences may be made at glenvillefuneralhome.com
