Marjorie Almy

Obituary of Marjorie Nathalie Almy

Marjorie “Marge” Nathalie Almy, 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 29, 2022.

Born on July 14, 1937 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to her late parents George E. And Claire R. (Fournier) Crickard. Marge graduated from Bancroft School in 1955 and continued her higher education at Simmons College, graduating in 1959 with a BS degree in Business.

At an early age her love for life, the outdoors, and new experiences began. Her first job out of college was working on a political campaign in Florida. She had a great group of college friends, who travelled together to Europe and explored the continent for six weeks. Shortly after, Marge lived on the Caribbean island of Antigua for six months, where she worked for the Red Cross.

In 1966, Marjorie met the love of her life, Christopher Robert Almy. They met at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and married within the year in Shrewsbury, MA, where they began their family. She was a woman who could adapt to any environment, she was a supportive military wife during the Vietnam era when the family moved from Massachusetts to Georgia, then on to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. In 1972, the Almy family planted their roots in Scotia, NY when Chris started working for Knolls Atomic Power Lab.

For 50 years, Marge and Chris lived at their beloved home surrounded by a neighborhood of international friends, now extended family. Marge was very community oriented; the Almy home was the gathering place for many, especially at Christmas! As she raised her family in Scotia, she also volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, homeroom Mom, and was locally known for the neighborhood summer camp she organized. For many years, she was a dedicated member of the Reformed Church of Scotia, she enjoyed running the jewelry booth annually at the church’s Dutch Fair. After her children graduated from college, Marge returned to the work force as an aide for Scotia-Glenville students with special needs.

The most important element of Marge’s life was her family. She was a caring mother, who made sure the meals were healthy, the children were happy, and if they ever needed motivation, inspiration, a friend, or someone with whom to practice sports, she was there with open arms and encouraging words. A talented piano player, she will be remembered for playing Kenny Rogers on the piano and always brightening another person’s day.

Predeceased by her brother, George E. Crickard Jr.  To continue her memory is her loving husband of 55 years, Christopher Almy; beloved children, Christopher (Stacey) Almy Jr., Jennifer (Rick) Porter, and Katherine (Jamie) Mahon; cherished grandchildren, Caitlynn and Zacharey Almy, Maddie and Patrick Mahon.
