Obituary of Francis J. Engert

Scotia- Francis J. Engert, 76, of Scotia NY, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023.  Francis was born on December 27, 1946 to Walter and Avis (Davies) Engert in Ilion, NY.

After graduating from Scotia-Glenville High School in 1965, Francis attended Bryant College, where he was a member of the fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1969. He worked for the New York State Department of Tax and Finance for 38 years until his retirement in 2010.

In his younger years, he was a ham radio enthusiast, and enjoyed playing baseball, tetherball and the trumpet.  Later in life, he enjoyed many summers at his camp on Galway Lake playing horseshoes, cards and indulging in an iced cold beer.  He was an active member of the Scotia Double A Bowling League for many years, a passion he passed down to his son, Jonathan.  He also enjoyed reading the daily paper with his morning cup of coffee and the “occasional” donut; and watching sports, Jeopardy and Seinfeld re-runs. He had an infectious laugh, an abundance of stories, was very humble and generous, and loved his family, friends and two cats very dearly.

He is predeceased by his parents; mother-in law Frances Palombo; brother-in law, Andrew Palombo; his nephews, Jimmy and Tommy Walker, and niece Meghan Walker.  

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Engert; his son Jonathan Engert (Carly); his two grandchildren Colin and Connor Engert; his brother, Fred Engert (Patti), and his sister Dawn Walker (Jim).  He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, March 17^th, 2023 from 4-6pm, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 6pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville.
