Obituary of Roy Edwardsen

Roy F. Edwardsen, 65, passed away June 7th, 2014; the world lost one of the great ones. Roy was born in Schenectady in 1949 to Fritz and Margaret Edwardsen. He was a 1966 graduate of Linton High School. Roy enlisted in the US Navy during Viet Nam and served aboard the USS America as an Aviation Electrician. Following his military service, Roy returned to Schenectady where he became a police officer. After 23 years of faithful service to the city, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by retiring and moving to the town of Hope in the Adirondacks with his wife Mary, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, gardening and anything else related to the outdoors. He continued to serve the people as a volunteer fireman, search and rescue volunteer, and town historian. He was proud of his military service, and held all veterans in the highest regard, and with the greatest respect. He was an active member of the Patriot Guard Riders, and participated in the Honor Flight Program where he escorted several WWII veterans to the National Memorials in Washington DC. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling with Mary, and spending time with his friends and family, whom he loved above all else, especially his grandchildren. Roy was a helper and friend to all who knew him, and many times, even to those that did not. He will be sorely missed. He was predeceased by his father Fritz and his wife Kristine. Roy is survived by his loving wife Mary, his mother Margaret, his daughters, Dawn Edwardsen of Schenectady, Melissa (Patrick) McLaughlin of Glenville and step daughter Brooke (Brian) Pierotti of Scotia; his son, Jeffrey (Tricia) Edwardsen of Niskayuna. Roy leaves his sister, Evelyn (Michael) Brown of Florida as well as seven cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, June 11 at 12:00 at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville.
